Overview
A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a document that explains how well a digital product meets accessibility standards. Schools and organizations use VPATs to understand whether a vendor’s platform is accessible for individuals with disabilities.
Most VPATs measure accessibility against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, which outline best practices for making digital content usable for all users, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers or keyboard navigation.
A VPAT typically includes:
The product name and vendor
The accessibility standards being evaluated (such as WCAG 2.1 AA)
A summary of how the product meets each accessibility requirement
Notes explaining any limitations or areas for improvement
