The file size limit for uploading documents into Genius is 10MB. This includes attachments to emails, student External Files, and the IEP upload on the Special Ed Form. This file size should be sufficient for any type of document that would need to be uploaded.
(For reference, a 10MB documented converted to PDF through a word processor would be about 400-500 pages. A 10MB document scanned in black and white at 300 DPI would be about 150-200 pages.)
PDFs are most commonly oversized due to the following reasons:
- The document has embedded fonts
- The document contains high-resolution images
- Oversized pages
- There is a complex layout with overlapping elements
- Scanned document at a high resolution*
*This is the most likely culprit for student documents and is easily overlooked when scanning documents.
Please refer to this resource from Adobe regarding pdf file sizes and how to reduce them.
